Mary Lou Williams
“Fractured Folk Tales for All Ages”
This medley of fractured fairy tales and fables will captivate the audience with their timeless truths, making the classic tales not only relevant to the modern age, but humorous.
Bio: Mary Lou Williams is a retired teacher. She holds a master’s degree in education from Columbia University. She has served on the board of the Florida Storytelling Association and produced local storytelling workshops featuring national tellers. She gives workshops and seminars at the Renaissance Academy of Florida Gulf Coast University. She has written a book of stories called Ten Fractured Fairy Tales and was the winner of the StorySlam at the 2017 Florida Storytelling Festival.
“Sabbath: A Day in the Life of Jesus”
This is a paraphrase of Mark 2-5 which describes a 24 hour period that begins with the Sabbath and follows the “adventures” of a day in the life of Jesus. It begins with food and ends with food. It begins with crowds and ends with a family reunited. It begins with hardened hearts and ends with hearts made open.
Bio: Drew Willard has been performing his own paraphrased translations of Bible stories since 1987 at all kinds of venues. He is an ordained minister with the United Church of Christ and serves a church in north central Florida. Drew recently completed a sabbatical during which he was an artist-in-residence at the Grunewald Guild in Washington state. A collection of his paraphrased translations and artwork, Gospel Pilgrimage Stories, was published in 2017 by Westbow.
“Naughty Children Have More Fun”
Debra personifies naughty children in three tales. She will make you laugh and rekindle your childhood memories. It is through her deep understanding of characterization that you will be engaged in 45 minutes of endearing fun.
Bio: Debra Weller has been delighting audiences for thirty-eight years. She is a highly animated teller who engages the audience with songs, emotions and playful characters. Debra has performed in the USA, China, Vietnam and Europe. She teaches workshops, professional development seminars and runs storytelling camps for children. She was a founding member of the South Coast Storytellers Guild of California and just moved to Florida in 2018.
